TRY Privacy Policy

Last updated: [insert date before publishing]

TRY is operated by Novapath Technologies Limited (“Novapath,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what we collect from riders and drivers using the TRY app, why, and what rights you have over it.

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers anyone using the TRY rider app, TRY driver app, or our website. If you are a driver, additional KYC-specific terms in Section 3 apply to you.

2. Information we collect

From all users (riders and drivers)

  • Phone number — used to create your account and verify your identity via SMS one-time passcode (OTP). We do not support email-based accounts.
  • Full name — as you enter it at sign-up.
  • Location data — your device's GPS location, collected when riders request a trip (to find nearby drivers and calculate fares), and continuously while drivers are online and available for trips.
  • Trip history — pickup/dropoff locations, fares, timestamps, and payment method for every trip you take or complete.
  • Wallet and payment data — your TRY wallet balance and transaction history. Payment processing itself is handled by our payment processor, Monnify — we never see or store your card number or bank login credentials.

From drivers only (KYC / onboarding)

  • National Identification Number (NIN) — collected once at sign-up to verify your identity, as required for operating a commercial passenger service in Nigeria.
  • Profile photo — shown to riders so they can identify you and your tricycle.
  • Tricycle (Keke) plate number and a photo of the plate — shown to riders and used to verify your vehicle.
  • Driver's license number.
  • Government levy receipt (where applicable) — informational only; TRY does not collect or process levy payments on your behalf.
  • City/location at registration — automatically detected via GPS at sign-up.

We do not collect contacts, photos from your camera roll beyond what you explicitly choose to upload, browsing history, or data from other apps on your device.

3. Why we collect it

We process your data to create and secure your account, match riders with nearby available drivers, calculate fares and process trip payments, let riders verify they're getting into the correct tricycle, verify driver identity before allowing them to carry paying passengers, maintain an accurate financial ledger, comply with Nigerian transport and data protection regulations, and investigate disputes, fraud, or safety incidents.

4. Who we share it with

  • Termii — our SMS provider, receives your phone number solely to deliver OTP codes.
  • Google Maps Platform — receives location coordinates to calculate routes, fares, and place names.
  • Monnify — our payment processor, receives the information needed to process wallet top-ups and driver withdrawals.
  • Other users, limited to trip-matching — when a trip is matched, the rider sees the driver's name, photo, phone number, and plate number; drivers see the rider's pickup/dropoff location and payment method.
  • Law enforcement or regulators, only if legally required.

We do not sell your data to advertisers or third parties.

5. Data retention

Trip and ledger records are retained indefinitely as financial/audit records, even after an account is deleted, because Nigerian tax and commercial recordkeeping obligations require it — these records are no longer linked to your active profile once your account is deleted. Driver KYC documents are retained for as long as the driver account is active, and for a reasonable period after closure. Live GPS pings are not retained beyond what's needed to complete the active trip.

6. Your rights

You can, at any time, delete your account from within the app — this removes your personal profile from our active systems (trip and ledger records survive as anonymized financial history). You can also request a copy of your data or ask us to correct inaccurate data by emailing info@novapath.ng. Under the NDPA, you also have the right to object to certain processing and to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

7. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and OTP-based authentication rather than passwords. No system is 100% secure, and we encourage you to keep your phone and SIM secure since phone number access is the primary key to your account.

8. Children

TRY is not intended for use by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated in-app before they take effect.
